Our Discovering Community research model gets students out of their classrooms to learn from their diverse communities, using media-making tools to document–and ultimately share–their experiences. We support teachers, students, and schools in a variety of projects in a variety of subject areas, and work together to establish the collaboration that best suits the school's needs - from one-time workshops we provide at the schools, to ongoing conceptual or technical assistance throughout a project.

Below you will find examples of student projects supported by Discovering Community. Several of the projects feature a case study (a detailed description of the project, timeline, equipment used, sequence of lessons, and how each project was integrated into the collaborating educator's unit or curriculum). Not all projects have case studies, but please feel free to contact us at the Vermont Folklife Center for more information and a more in-depth description of any of the projects.
